Coordinated Humanitarian Response, Health and Displacement – Master's Programme

This Erasmus Mundus Joint Master aims to provide a unique multidisciplinary program, uniting European and African universities in teaching about life-saving assistance and displacement in volatile contexts. HumanResponse establishes an educational platform to build a resilient global workforce to tackle future humanitarian crises. Amidst ongoing conflict and escalating climate disasters, HumanResponse addresses the pressing need for professionalisation of humanitarian workers through (i) a specialized offer, (ii) fostering South-North collaboration and multi-stakeholder cooperation, (iii) strengthening localized leadership, and (iv) articulating theory and practice to navigate organizational complexity in humanitarian action. HumanResponse provides innovative training through three mobility teaching periods in Portugal, Norway and Uganda, providing students with a grounding in sociology, public policy, management, health, design, development and social work. A fourth mobility allows students to collect dissertation data in humanitarian contexts with 25 institutions in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South America or Asia. The curriculum is taught by both academics and practitioners, emphasizing problem-based learning and knowledge application opportunities in summer schools and internships.
