Master in Theology

The Master in Theology at MF is a two-year, English-taught programme in the heart of Oslo, designed for students who want to immerse themselves in Christian theology and wrestle with complex questions at the intersection between history and contemporary society. At MF, you will join a vibrant academic community in one of Europe’s most dynamic theological environments. At MF you will: Learn from scholars actively engaged in world-leading research within biblical studies, systematic theology, constructive theology, and political theology Be part of an ecumenical and interdisciplinary community and explore diverse theological and ecclesial traditions. Study in seminar-based classes with close student–teacher interaction and close supervision throughout your master’s thesis. Join a diverse and inclusive student community with an active communal life, including regular chapel services, student associations, and social events. The programme combines rigorous coursework with independent research, allowing you to choose electives that engage with contemporary challenges – such as The Taboo Bible, Critical Issues in Political Theology and Theological Anthropology – alongside a full year master’s thesis. As part of the programme, you will also be invited to our Masterclass, a bi-termly academic and social setting for informal talks and discussion with leading academics and Church leaders about theology, career life, spirituality and ecclesial and social issues. Pathways The Master in Theology offers flexibility for different academic goals. You may: Complete a full two-year degree Join for a semester or year as an exchange (Erasmus) or study abroad student Apply to take individual courses, either as part of your degree elsewhere or for continuing education.
