The Department of Biomedicine has excellent facilities in the Building for Basic Biological Research (BBB), just outside Bergen city centre . Programme Structure The Master's programme consists of two main parts: the first year comprises compulsory and elective courses totalling 60 ECTS credits, while the second year is dedicated to a practical research project/master's thesis of 60 ECTS credits. In the first year, you will work on subject courses, read theory, and get to know other students and research groups. In the second year, you will work in the laboratory and be integrated into the research group that fits your master's thesis. You will have office space with other master's students and write your master's thesis, including theoretical work and laboratory work. The theoretical courses provide you with the necessary cell biological and physiological knowledge to understand how diseases arise and are treated. You will also receive training in ethical issues that arise in modern medical research, as well as scientific writing and communication. Career and Further Studies After completing the master's degree, you can work in research institutes, hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, teaching, public administration, HSE, and research communication. The master's degree also provides opportunities to apply for doctoral programmes (PhD).
