Master's Programme in Global Health

The Master's programme in global health is concerned with how we can improve public health and achieve health equity worldwide. Why choose this programme? The programme is interdisciplinary and taught entirely in English, bringing together an international community of staff and students at the Centre for International Health (CIH), based at the Alrek Health Campus in Bergen. You'll work both independently and in groups, starting with a structured first semester built around mandatory seminars and group work, before the schedule opens up and you shape your degree through elective courses. What will you learn? You'll learn to identify and critically analyse the key factors shaping the health and wellbeing of populations in low and middle income countries, and to conduct research and formulate effective, appropriate responses to complex health related issues. This equips you to contribute to innovative solutions within public health administration, NGOs, and higher education. Student life Most of your time is spent at CIH on the Alrek Health Campus, where you take part in an international academic and social environment alongside staff and fellow students. As a master's student, you also have access to working spaces at the Faculty of Medicine. In your first semester, expect weekly learning activities including seminars and group work. As the programme progresses, you gain more flexibility to design your own path through elective courses, and to specialise within thematic areas such as maternal and child health, nutrition, communicable and non communicable diseases, oral sciences, or migration and health. Career paths This interdisciplinary degree qualifies you for positions in academia, the health sector, international organisations, and public administration. Graduates report that the programme gave them a broad set of working skills and a solid theoretical foundation, valued across very different work settings. If you want to continue in research, the degree also qualifies you to apply for a PhD programme.
