Master's Programme in Music Performance or Composition

A two-year master's programme for instrumentalists, singers and composers working with classical music or jazz, focusing on developing your own artistic profile and your ability to reflect critically on your own work. Why choose this programme? The programme is built around your own main instrument, voice, or compositional practice. In addition to instruction by our highly qualified faculty members, Norwegian and international guests are invited to host seminars and master classes. The course will enable you to further develop your artistic identity and individuality, and also increase your ability to reflect upon your own work. What will you learn? The programme has two tracks, main instrument or composition, plus project work. Project work is split into three self-chosen sub-projects, letting you specialise in your own performing or creative interests, from interpretation and improvisation to composer-performer collaboration and cross-over or experimental work. You document your projects orally or digitally, depending on what fits the material. Student life Teaching takes place through individual lessons in your main instrument or project, combined with seminars built on open, interactive group discussion. These seminars address working methods, use of sources, and questions relevant to what you're working on. The master programme benefits from a rich international environment, where English is used as the main language.
